before I get into it about the theaters over here…

These upcoming releases look really interesting. You can watch them all on the apple site HERE.

Another film about vampires. Lots of them. Farming humans. Kind of like if Underworld and the Matrix got together. The leftover free humans are trying to re-humanize the vampires because the ‘farmed blood’ is about to run out and shit is about to get real.

Features Running Up That Hill from Placebo as the trailer track… so you can trust that at least the soundtrack will be good.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
… with Heath Ledger? Wow, production sure takes a while…
But looks visually lovely (a la Moulin Rouge) and has a pretty amazing cast to keep you occupied.
Alice in Wonderland
(picture above)
c/o Disney and Tim Burton, which means (you guessed it) starring Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. Although, as always, that really doesn’t matter because this looks gorgeous. And well done. And the animation seems a lot more seamless than most films coming out right about now.
Helena has been a busy lady these past few years, eh? Between Potter, Fight Club, a bunch of Burton Films… she must be rolling in it right about now.
Clash of the Titans
I loved the 1981 original a LOT. And so did my sister.
I’m concerned that the new version (wow, 28 years later.. I am as old as the original) is not following exactly the same story of Perseus and Andromeda from 1981. That was a good story and held true to the myth.
In fact, the synopsis offered is completely different and follows a plot more similar to 300. Good vs evil, man vs hell, etc. Great. But, it will be interesting to see what they can do visually to recreate the gods/villains.
From the director of Chicago. About an Italian filmmaker who is struggling to make another great movie while simultaneously battling director’s block, his current habit of having far too many mistresses and the impending loss of his wife as a consequence. Musical. Stars Daniel Day Lewis as the male lead and Nicole Kidman, Sophia Lauren, Penelopé Cruz, Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson and Fergie as the ladies.
The soundtrack is guaranteed to kick ass and any song that suggests to have a great love life one should just ‘be Italian…’ is good for me. I can agree with that 😉
Death at a Funeral
Comedy. About all of the crazy stuff that goes down after a loved one dies. Stars Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, Chris Rock, and Martin Lawrence. I think having this many comedians in one movie might be illegal… but the trailer is pretty hysterical.
Should apparently already be out in the US, but over here we still have to wait, I think. Looks really good and really sad. Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.
Robin Hood
Ok, it’s been a few years since Prince of Thieves, and a few less since Men in Tights. So I guess it’s time for the Gladiator makeover, yes? I love the story of Robin Hood but am not sure how I feel about it getting the ‘epic’ Ridley Scott treatment, starring Russell Crowe. It’s totally turned into one of those manly movies, which is fine since Prince of Thieves definitely had a chick-flick spin to it. I guess. What do I know, I was like 10 when it came out. I liked it. We’ll see.
