A note on Bondage and photographing it…

Coming from an art model who happens to be into bondage, shibari and is an artist as well…

If you’re planning on photographing your fetish and calling it art, take the time to make it look like fucking art. Don’t use the ropes as an excuse to photograph a labia or some nipples. Or even penises, which you rarely ever see IN THIS CASE.

Seriously. It is SO EASY to tell when the photographer is male.

I’ve worked with a lot of photographers that were into bondage or the idea of ropes. I have yet to see any of those photos on display (excluding Sam Holden, who does an AMAZING job), and I have yet to see an image that makes me excited to have been a part of it (excluding SH).

If that’s what you’re into, that’s totally fine. But don’t put your personal stash of photos from that time you tied up your girlfriend in an art show unless they are worth showing. Because chances are, the majority of the general (and arts) public doesn’t think your photos are that amazing or interesting to look at. And the other people that are into bondage? They’ll like the photos, but they’ve seen better.

Thanks.
